Happy TaTuesday! Here’s another simple one. This one is pretty small & straightforward. it was my very first tattoo.
A bird flying from a cage - a unique, misunderstood, wild, living thing escaping from a container.
Sound familiar, right? There’s a trend here with some of my tattoos & some of them just all around mean I’m a little rebel. 😂
what’s especially unique about this tattoo was the deep feeling in my gut that informed me that it is my PURPOSE to reclaim my body with art. I’ve endured all sorts of weird comments about my body art because my purpose is to be a LIGHT (a decorated light) and to educate someone else who needed to hear it on body autonomy.
My body has experienced trauma, disordered eating, picking, prodding & just lot of toss ups in the journey to appreciating it.
Queue me in college, “finding myself” - when I suddenly came across an unexpected lump of money. “Get a tattoo”. My intuition said. “Reclaim your body.” Keep in mind about 99% of the people in my inner circle thought tattoos were tacky. My ex boyfriend told me that he would dump me if I ever “ruined my body like that”
So there I was. 19 years old with $75 to spend & starting a journey of healing + a deeper layer of self expression. My body. My rules.

PRAY TELL; what was your first tattoo experience? How did you make the decision to get it?
The talented @abigailervin drew this up for me + I got it done at @monkeybrainzrva in Richmond, VA.
There was not a lot of pain (we will get to the painful tattoos soon, don’t worry). This one mostly felt like I was being drawn on really hard with a stick pen.
